Week 6 - Episode 34 - Branches in Daily Life

March 08, 2019

Applied art is seen by some as the inferior sister of ‘pure’ art. That’s not a very interesting or useful opinion.

Applied art, art showing up in our daily lives on things we handle, pass by or through, live or work in, is immensely important. And much more relevant to most people’s lives than non-functional art.

Today we’re going to celebrate the former by looking at how non-living branches have crept into our lives.

Think candelabra, ornaments on buildings, jewellery, plates, vases: branches have inspired people throughout the ages to make their world more beautiful.

Branches may have crept into your clothes (check out the amazingly detailed lace cuffs above), or sit on your plate.

They may climb buildings, frame paintings, wind around vases…or show up in other unexpected ways.

Today, look for decorative branches in your life. Capture them, and share them on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #kramerseye.
