What is the most famous circle in the world?
And why have men (and women) created circles since the beginning of time?
Why are so many sacred stone circles circular?
And why are we drawn towards them?
I believe the answer is very simple.
Our lives here on earth have always been dependant on one giant circle in the sky - the sun.
The Egyptians, Greeks and others worshipped this circle as a God. Because without the sun, without this giant circle of light, we cannot survive.
Next time you see the sun, think about all the people that have looked upon this mighty circle before. And everyone who, like you, is looking at it now.
Maybe it’s not such a mystery after all how much we love circles.
Create your own circle collage
This weekend’s visual assignment is a bit different. You’ll hopefully have more time on your hands, and your collection of circles (both in your head and on your camera) is growing.
This weekend, capture circles and then join them in a collage.
You can capture them in the wild, with your camera. But also in online art works, for example in the wonderful Rijksstudio collection.
If you like to draw or paint why not create your own collection, like Wassily Kandinsky’s example from day 2?
You can cut them out of paper too.
And if you’re worried about your circle-skills: just use a turned over glass, cup or bowl and trace around it. Voila - the perfect imperfect circle.
Have fun creating your own perfect circle artwork!
Share your circle collage using the hashtag #kramerseye on Instagram or Twitter, I would love to see what you’ve created around this week’s theme.
